This flower must be an intelligent silica-based life form originally sent from SpicaV to follow and monitor the rover.

It's the only explanation that makes sense.

Quartz. And in answer to an earlier comment; It sticks up because the material around it is softer and has eroded faster.

Some initial thoughts have been that it may be more plastic thst's fallen off the rover. That's a bit of a concern as they don't want such debris included in any soil to be sampled. They should get a much closer look at it to be sure. Other thoughts, which I think is more plausible, is that it's a rock with parts of it gleaming from reflection from the sun. It might be quartz or a mix. Why parts would be gleaming but the rest not is a little curious, but if it's a rock, then it might be that it's covered with dust and a few raised spots have been exposed from wind.
