I am glad "there are no dumb questions" because I have one. I understand gravity because I see it work dozens of times a day. I understand electromagnetism just slightly less because I see it at work. But, weak force and strong force are still eluding me because I cannot put them into my daily life.
Maybe part of the problem is too much strange (to me) vocabulary. I am working on that. Meanwhile, weak force, strong force which I think Wiki is calling "interactions".
I have not yet tackled the 'strong force' article. Weak force. I have read the Wiki article once. Perhaps if I read it twenty times, I'll spot something but I'm not sure. Can anyone explain to a lay person, in easy American, just what it is that a weak force does? I did see one line that seems to say it would be involved in the action of an atomic bomb or a hydrogen bomb. Am I right? What else - on the peaceful side of life?
P.S. Ah, yes. That is great. When it talks about something I already know about, I can relate the new to the old. Thank you very much. And the other three are there also. That's good.
Strong force holds protons and neutrons together so that atoms can exist.
Weak force is responsible for nuclear fusion and radioactive decay.
That's the two sentence version, anyhow. :-) Dont sweat all the confusing vocabulary in the beginning. Keep reading up on Quantum Physics and it all eventually starts to make sense. The Standard Model can be somewhat confusing at first. Remember, if it sounds weird, it's right.

That is pretty much what was coming through to me. It makes sense now because I do have an understanding of the structure of atoms. Thanks much.
Speaking of vocabulary, I love that choice of the word "flavor". :-)
