Yes. That makes sense. I was shooting near vertical and towards the northwest, and therefore if Mercury was to the south of the sun, it would show up on the left portion of the image, which it does.

I've heard.. No idea if this is accurate, the the ISS transited the eclipse in some areas.. Perhaps that's what you saw?
