NASA's reaction to China's moon landing was something like, "Congratulations. Let's collaborate in the future." It's not the reaction I was hoping for. I was hoping for another space race.
While it’s definitely an impressive feat in and out of itself, China still has a long way to go before it can match NASA, Roscosmos and the ESA. They’ve had a massive head start.
One advantage China has it will succeed at all cost. If it tells 1.3 million of its residents to move for a new Three Gorges Dam; they will move or be moved. That does not happen here in the US. If the political opposites cannot agree; it doesn't get done. Even new interstates can be shut down because of legal haggling; not that much of a problem in China.
Three flags are still there, apparently, there were four in total, Apollo 11, 12, 16 and 17. It is believed that the Apollo 11 flag was blown over by the exhaust during liftoff.
A plan to photograph the historic lunar locations with NASA's new Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO), revealed yesterday on SPACE.com, should be a boon to lunar archaeologists who aim to solve some longstanding mysteries and also get a historic-landmark designation for the Apollo 11 touchdown site.
LRO resolution is around 1.5 feet for the landing sites, which is why you get anything at all.
It’s of course possible to get even finer resolution, but that means more data to be transmitted. It doesn’t make sense to send an orbiter with say 1 cm resolution to focus on just landing sites.
You know what the Chinese say about the authenticity of the Apollo moon landings?
[whatever the Mandarin or Cantonese equivalent is] "Jeez, can you believe there are these idiots in the USA that actually believe the whole thing was a hoax? They've really got some nuts over there!"

They wouldn’t even say that. They would smile, nod, and then launch something to get ahead. Oh wait, they just did.
What I never got for those who believe the moon landings were fake, wouldn't the Russians have to be in on it as well?
We were in a space race back then and if the Russians knew we were making it all up, I would think they would try everything in their power to "one up us" and send their own people to the moon to prove we were lying, but they didn't. I think that's probably the easiest way to disprove the conspiracy theorists.
