The 1959 pilot episode, airing a decade before the first moon landing, bore what would become the series’ hallmark: narrating Cold War anxieties through a mix of science and superstition.
That pilot episode, which aired 60 years ago this fall and sold CBS on the cult series, dealt with the country’s early attempts to hurl humans into the cosmic void, depicting what viewers learn only late in the show is an astronaut trainee who has been in an isolation chamber for nearly three weeks.

I remember the episode, though I didn't know it was the pilot for the series. Yes, isolation can do strange things to a person's mind. Twilight Zone had some pretty good episodes, and some not so good in my opinion. This was a good episode.
