Aerobrake, parachute, skycrane, soft landing with intelligently picked spot? Nobody - absolutely nobody - but NASA/JPL can do that. I know I give America a bit of a hard time at times, but that right there: Finest minds of a great country doing their thing.
I can't wait to see the video/pictures from the cameras facing up toward the parachute and down toward the ground during the descent, they should be epic!
Do you really think NASA has stumbled on something? I know the gurus in space exploration would argue with me on this. I just thought they landed on some moon or rock and not Mars. This is also a challenge. Finding the right planet. But the idea of sending information back to earth, is superb. Very excellent. How far away? Very far away.
I hope the Helicopter, Ingenuity, is able to fly in the Martian atmosphere. If so, it won't be doing any science, but in future missions aerial exploration can get to areas a rover couldn't.
