There is actually a push now for people with disabilities to be hired for jobs which is good. I have read a few articles. I know my son with DS would love to have a job and nothing is available because the programs here are terrible and unless you know someone, your child sits in one spot in front of nuts and bolts all day.

This is great news. I have Asperger's Syndrome and currently have an associate's degree in journalism, working toward my bachelor's degree. That means in the next few years I will be in the market for a career.

It would be good to see a push for more employment in the professional career tracks. That is the toughest nut to crack for someone with ASD but once integrated into that employment sector a person can go a long way toward independence. I realize this is not for everyone but there are certainly candidates out there who can pull it off if given a chance.
