moving from small town in nc to spokane area possibly other areas in wa
my wife and I are in our mid-late 20's, no kids, one miniature schnauzer. We are wanting out of our current area, it's a dead zone. The best thing is a small town in the mountains named boone. Everyone around is super conservative and rude. Everyone has to know what everyone else is doing. The healthcare around here is a joke. My wife has remained undiagnosed for over a year now. We need change. We feel moving to the spokane/greater washington area in general will be of great benefit. We love hiking and the outdoors. We are looking to move asap. Is there any type of relocation services that assist people looking to relocate? We've started applying for jobs and looking for places to rent. Wedgewood Aparments seem nice. Any opinions? We currently pay 700 for rent for a 2 br/2 ba apartment in what they supposedly call luxury aparments. We do have lots of amenities but they are not necessary. We would like something comparable with keeping rent under 700. Any helpful information that will aid us in our move is appreciated. Any leads on jobs is a plus too. We are both currently resolution specialists at a call center and have been there for almost 2years. We started as customer service reps so going back to that is an easy transition. Thanks!!
700 a month for a 2 /2 luxurery apt would be a little out of reach here. expect to pay closer to 800. however with the foreclosure market so big here in spokane you can rent a very nice home for the same price, and get a yard and garage and privacy. so check out windemer property management and pmp and some others here in spokane and you'll see what i'm talking about. spokane is a nice town. but got to get use to snow.
and call center work is here in spokane, just check spokesman review newspaper want ads and craigslist and see what you can see. as far as relocation services, you can get on the chamber of commerce website for spokane and fill out their request for relocation package and you'll get map and discount coupons and info on local businesses mailed to you. city-data forum probably is the best relocation serivce available to you. even though this forum is lite on traffic, you can still brouse through past forums and gain a lot of info on this area. hope this helps and good luck to you.
thanks for the info. Were not really looking for any type of 'luxury'. I should have simply said were looking for safe nice neighborhoods with rent under 700. Were not that picky but we do have standards. Also call center work is nice but not necessary as long as the job pays over $9.50 an hour. The other posts are exactly why we decided to move.
good that cdf has been so helpful for making your choice as far as where to live.
finding a job is the clencher though and that's hard when you're not in the city.
there's lots of apartments that list through property management compainies that are lots less then the big complexes that have the pool and workout room, etc. if you don't need those things then smaller older bldgs that don't have onsite managers but are still nice places can save you some $$.
and as far as where in spokane to live...well the south hill is touted as being the "in" place....i lived just moved out of the south hill becasue i didn't want to drive so much to get to places and because of the hills during snow and ice are not fun!
i prefer the north side of spokane; shadle, north hill, northwest. everything is right here and not the steep hills to deal with.
spokane valley is nice, but i prefer being closer to downtown. so that's my 2 cents.
very cool. I think my only major concern is wanting to know I will have a job when we get there. We don't know anyone that's lives in washington so we won't have any support but ourselves. I guess it's wanting some sort of security. Anyways thanks for the info again. It helps alot. I just don't want to end up moving and then having to move right back.
also how is traffic? Should I expect heavy traffic like I would in charlotte, nc(the largest city closest to me and I hate driving their) or moderate? I know spokane is a large city and there will be traffic, what I want to know is if it's bumper to bumper all the time with lots of aggressive drivers or is it an easy flow of high volumes.

Why would you wanna move from one conservative dead zone to another conservative dead zone?
thanks to everyone. And I want out of nc and would love to be on the west coast as the conservative leanings of this area are insane and I can not imagine somewhere that would be the same or worse unless I stayed in the south. We need out and need better healthcare as my wife is suffering from an undiagnosed medical issue for over a year and were not getting anywhere except wasting money on reptitive testing that yields no results. We've had several doctors to give up. From what I understand is spokane is a healthcare epicenter. If not I would like to know before we make such a drastic change.
SPOKANE is sorta conservative but this is by west coast standards. not conservative by southern standards. there's a BIG difference. so you'll experience a whole new life style, spokane has a slow pace; easy traffic and people who mind their own business, yet know how to smile and say hello to a stranger. and spokane does have good health care. but jobs are slow but since you sound like you're open to different fields and not expecting a 6 figure salary you'll have more options.
and venturing out at your young age will be a good experience for you. younger people are able to make friends in new locations much more easier then older people becasue younger people are just more open and eager to accept new people into their lives... so good luck.
