Spokane is not a place for wimps - you need to be able to handle extreme cold temperatures, bad roads, icy roads, street beggars (wear sunglasses and you don't have to look 'em in the eye). It gets really hot and days are long in the summer so if you don't like to sweat or want to go to bed early, this is not the place for you. You'll need a car or truck tough enough to handle potholes and snow. No sissy cars here unless you can park it until spring & summer. The Spokanites who appreciate the good and the bad know that we're hardy Northwesterners and it's not for everyone.

Not true. I am neither a noob or tourist and I frequently end up navigating the-hell-that-is Division Street out of necessity. The reality is there is no commuter friendly method of interfacing Spokane's North and South poles. The surface streets you vaguely reference are plagued with potholes and associated threats to drivers.

In an age where other cities have long since addressed the commuter issue with viable freeways, public transportation and pedestrian walk/bike paths, Spokane is a good ten years behind the bell curve.

If you do not know how to get north and south without using Division, yes you are a noob. Seattle has a great freeway system. I hear the commute there is wonderful

Some people might like that. Not the young, hip, cool and smug social aware types but some people like a slower less complicated pace. That is perhaps why Spokane is one of the top places to retire.

Government Motors should be doing OK with the 60 billion lost to the US taxpayer. Been a Chevy man my entire life and that changed on June 1, 2009
