Default Living in Mead, Colbert, way north Spokane?

We're relocating to Spokane from the Seattle area by this summer. We are leaning towards the Mead school district. Does anyone have opinions, good or bad, about these areas? I have young children and my husband will travel some, so I would feel safer buying a house in a neighborhood rather then a house in a secluded area. Any particular pockets in this area to avoid? Someone said that part of the southern part of the district is pretty close to some sketchier areas. I actually lived in the Spokane Valley as a child and initially wanted to live in Veradale but apparently the Central Valley SD has alot of issues right now. Any information you'd like to share is appreciated!

I would say the sketchier areas in the Mead school district would be east of Hwy 2 near where Farwell/Hastings intersects - there are a hodge podge of manufactured homes and not very well kept homes. You should be okay if you stick with established neighborhoods near Wandermere, the Five Mile area, Fairwood Park and Spokane Country Club areas, Blackhawk & Wellington Heights, Camelot, Glendeden. Colbert is mostly all nice homes & neighborhoods. I agree with you not wanting to be out in the outlying areas if you're going to be home with kids and your husband travels. You'll feel much safer having nearby neighbors and being closer to main roads & stores, etc.
