I'm glad you continually announce yourself as the "Spokane Area forum troll" Yeledaf. Now please go add something constructive to a thread. There is no need to make snide comments about me if I post something positive about Spokane. Others are viewing these forums possibly considering moving here or not, and all you have to add is that I am sitting inside watching the local news station, and sleeping. Why don't you move to Kennewick if you hate the weather here so much? I hear they get a lot of sunlight year-round.

What is "troillish" about realism?

People can pretend that everything is lalala in Spokane and try to fool others into thinking the same. There is more to life than selling real estate and deceiving others into a false and dishonest view of one's community.

Nothing I said was directed at you personally (as you well know, unless you're so self-centered you can't tell the difference) -- I don't know or care who you are. Rather, I was addressing your mindset, which is Babbitt-like and boosterish about Spokane and feels compelled to denigrate other places...

You compare Spokane to other places (LA, NY, and Texas) as if Spokane were some kind of magical kingdom of sweetness and light. You know it's not -- I know it's not -- and (guess what) other people might want to get a little balance in what they read about the place.

The danger in continuing to respond to these posts is that they continually pull the discussion off topic. Nonetheless, the above quote is amazing in that it states comments aren't personally directed (while then parenthetically calling the poster self-centered) and then rationalizing that the comments aren't personal because they are about the poster's thoughts (or mentality). Calling someone's thoughts vacuous or superficial is indeed personal no matter how you couch it. Chiaroscuro's posts have been thoughtful, honest and sometimes quite voluminous but no fair reading would peg them as blind cheerleading for Spokane.

I enjoy the discussions on these boards and appreciate the variety of opinions available. If you feel Spokane is too cold, great. If it is boring, fine. Post away. In order to share those opinions, however, there is no need to belittle and mischaracterize the opinions of others who post here.

I responded to a person who belittled me. The term "troll" was used, unless I am mistaken...

Well, one person's troll is another person's skeptic. I have no idea who chiaroscuro is or what his/her posting history is. I was describing Spokane, and the provincial mentality of those who would extoll it at the expense of other, more enlightened places.

Small minds discuss people; mediocre minds discuss events; superior minds discuss ideas. The idea that Spokane is some sort of geographical and cultural nonpareil is worth a little cynical snickering, don't you think?

Ok, let's start talking about the subject at hand and not get into the "personal attack" mode.

I was going to delete the last series of posts but kena's comments would also have had to go too ...and I think there were some words of wisdom there.

Also, Yeledaf's last paragraph does make a very good point.

Again, folks, please debate the ideas presented and not the person presenting them. Remember, our T.O.S. says this:
Quote:
Be civil, no personal attacks, flaming, or insults. We may attack ideas (politely) but we do not attack the speaker of the idea. Be careful with your words, there is a point where being direct crosses a line into blunt, in-your-face hostility. Please, report bad posts instead of engaging in flame wars on the boards. Insulting another member or a moderator will not be tolerated anywhere on this website. This includes Direct Messages and Reputation Comments.

If you disagree with something, say so, but explain WHY.
Please stay within these guidelines. Thanks.

And everyone can put away their thesauruses...

Well, we're back to visit at the end of the month. Hopefully, all traces of snow will be gone, I'll get to see all the thawed-out homeless people and go have lunch at Dick's if I'm not carjacked are shot at. If we live until dinner, I think we'll go to Onions--downtown or South Hill?
Meanwhile, I've albut given up on worrying about school districts. We'll see if we can't find some homes that would suit us and then research the actual schools they're in. District 81 and Central Valley seem fine--good and bad about both. As with everything else, the varying opinions from laymen to professionals are very, very... varying(too tired to get out the thesaurus or to even care...). :~) D

What is the illegal drug scene like out there? I currently live in Northern California where marijuana permeates and dominates every aspect of our community. i see that Washington also has "medical marijuana"....is it the same as California...ie, just a way to make a ton of money illeagally?
