Hi everyone,
Our small family (with a toddler) is uprooting from Reno to Spokane Valley because of a job offer. We would like to know of any villages/communities that are family friend with good schools. If anyone knows of a map with school ratings, I would greatly appreciate it! Our price range is between $200k to $400k (though we'd like to keep it toward the lower range because we'd like to save some money).
Also, as a stay at home mom, are there a lot of activities/centers where I can take my toddler? I know Spokane gets a ton more snow than Reno and I'm dreading being stuck inside the house all of the time.

TIA!

I don't know much about Reno, but I don't think Spokane gets "a ton" more snow. I think that they must be fairly close. Spokane is further north, but Reno is much higher in elevation. I'm betting Reno has more sunny days, especially in winter, than Spokane does though.

Reno gets 3 times as much snow as Spokane. That doesn't seem right, though...

I lived in Spokane for 24 yrs. Stay on the South Hill. Spokane does not get a ton of snow. 6 inches on the ground is typical. I also lived in Tahoe City for 6+ yrs., I know snow. In Spokane you will know ice. Still, I think you will like the South Hill area of Spokane. Your 200k to 400k will buy you a very comfortable home. Don't know a thing about toddlers and Spokane. Live long and prosper.

I was basing my insight on the city data "snowfall" charts which showed significantly more snow in Spokane than Reno ( 6 inches for Reno and 16 inches for Spokane). So you can understand my initial reaction!
We do get a lot of sun even with the cold. Snow melts away in a day or so, it doesn't stick.

Thank you, we will look into that community. My husband will be working in Spokane Valley (on East Sprague), is it a long commute from South Hill? In general, is there any traffic on the highway/streets?

Sorry. I guess I didn't assume that was a competitor site...

Thank you! I looked into the schools and I've narrowed them down to Chester, Liberty Lake and Horizon. Liberty Lake looks pretty far, how far is the commute to East Sprague (intersecting freeway)?

Liberty Lake is basically an extension of Spokane Valley, so it will be close to East Sprague area.

I am buying a house in Spokane Valley near Liberty Lake and I drive to downtown Spokane. Takes me about 20 minutes at max. Your husbands commute will be much shorter.

Thank you so much for your input! We are really excited. We will only have about four days to look but I know it's doable since we went into escrow the day we left on our scouting trip in our first relocation. This forum has helped us plenty to narrow down our prospects!
