Anyone here or know anyone who does this commute? Let's say Coeur D'Alene to downtown Spokane. What are the pros and cons? Thank you.

45-60 min on the average day. Add 15-30 min if it's icy/snowy.

I drive from Barker Rd area to downtown and it takes me 25-30 min average.

Also, have you inquired about the state tax ramifications of living in one and working in the other?

Washington doesn't have an income tax, Idaho does. If you work in Spokane and live in Coeur D'Alene, you will pay income tax in Idaho on your salary earned in Wshington. If you live just across the border and still in Washington, you won't pay income tax. (state income tax, you still pay federal income tax, no matter where you live)

Both states have sales tax of about the same rate. The difference is that Washington does not charge sales tax on groceries and Idaho does.

However, my son works for a company that has a branch is Spokane and many of their workers live in Idaho, so some people are doing it.

I've lived in both states. Schools are better in WA. Idaho is at the bottom of all US states for school funding. And sure, it's not ALL about money but when the kids don't have their own textbooks to take home for homework, that affects them. I had to buy textbooks for my daughters online. Most of the other kids in their classes just made do.
As for politics, both northern Idaho and eastern WA lean conservative.
