Default What drives Spokane???

Is it considered a manufacturing, service based, agriculutural or even a regional distribution hub, what sector drives the economy?

Thanks,
Dave

The largest employers in Spokane are heath care, government, education, and military. There is a decent manufacturing presence including Kaiser Aluminum, Huntwood, etc, a decent size professional services market (several strong local banks) and Spokane is the hub of a large agricultural area. The area was founded upon a natural resources economy of timber and mining and was a railroad town.

The chamber of commerce's general overview:

Spokane is the economic, financial and service capital of the Inland Northwest, in addition to being a major attraction for parts of southern British Columbia and Alberta, opening a market to over two million people.

The Spokane economy is heavily trade-and service-oriented, and is working to expand its manufacturing and technology sectors. Because of Spokane’s strategic location, it has been Washington State’s primary inland distribution center and transportation hub since 1881.

kena ~ Kaiser Aluminum is nowhere near the manufacturer it was 10 to 15 years ago. It basically runs on a skeleton crew now. A poorly paid one comparatively. the health care industry is one of the best in the entire country, so anyone in that field should do alright.
