My wife and I are fed up here in Seattle with all the unrest and intolerance encouraged by Socialists running the city. It's really gotten worse over the last 15 years with legalized hard drugs and untreated homeless folks with dangerous mental problems. Residents, including liberals I know, display BLM posters in their windows hoping armed vandals will spare their homes and businesses. It sucks. And it's expensive, too.

We are searching for a more accepting community where all are welcome, including Trump supporters, other patriots, and even peaceful protesters. I am 60 nearing retirement. My wife is 50. No kids.

As some of you live, work, and vacation in, or close to, picturesque Coeur d'Alane, Sandpoint, and other Northern Idaho cities, are white supremacist groups labeled there by the Southern Poverty Law Center still prevalent like in the Ruby Ridge days? Or is their influence exaggerated? I'm Jewish and want to steer clear of that hate scene. Maybe Spokane is a better choice? Any thoughts?

Thank you.

Steve in Seattle

I am hardly an informed source on how the Jewish community is treated in the Coeur d' Alene area but ...

I have 2 gay friends who retired to Hayden Lake. Believe it was home base of Richard Butler , 20 years ago or so.

They love it and have had not one issue from the citizens of Idaho. They barbecue with their neighbors, watch each others homes when people are gone and are active in their community.

So on the surface sounds good to go.

I lived in the Priest river area for 14 years. No hate groups, the locals ran out the Aryan Nations years ago. It’s a very live and let live kind of area.
You’d be far better off asking in the Idaho board, though.

I've heard Moscow's liberal. They have a community-supported progressive radio station: Radio Free Moscow. I don't know if you've lived in Seattle long enough to remember KRAB? The Moscow station is like an improved version of that.

Bsck to the OP: the hate these days is cascading (sorry) from the left, not the right.

I am right-center, solidly Republican. Always have been, who knows about the future.

In my observation, extremists on either / both sides of the aisle are almost equally putrid. The Far Right flies swastikas, other White Supremacist garbage, hoods, sheets, God knows what else. I don't know that much about it and never want to. They have retarded, sick views about so many things, dunno where to begin. Fortunately, they've been marginalized a long time. They have rights, but when marginalized everyone else goes: ".....And who cares? You're a nut, what don't you shut up and/or shove off."

The retarded, sick, Far Left has revealed their agenda past month. There will be a backlash, loudly (= bad) or quietly, from massively disgusted, scared, and contemptuous law and order types....which is many of us. We need to stay within the rails, people. That does not mean there shouldn't be "change," and it's time for plenty of it: we get that. The bombings, shootings, zombies invading Capitol Hill here in Seattle, though: that ain't gonna work.

I am left center and I agree with you.

There has been a rise in nationalism in recent years (in North America & Europe) as a backlash to the negative facets of globalisation, but it's definitely not in the same category as "hate groups", although organizations like the SPLC sometimes exaggerate & sensationalize this spike in nationalism. You probably have a better chance of being struck by lightning than encountering an actual nazi or klansman in our modern era.
Well said. As an example: when really young, I thought and said some dumb suburban White kid stuff (to myself, only) due to ignorance about the world. College wised me up, at a Michigan Uni that was not radical (anything), just supplying a great education to those who wanted to learn. Education is the answer to dumb thinking about the genuine feasible of radical ideas. The ability to study and make your own decisions is key.

Back about then, true hate groups in the region in question...and elsewhere...were legally busted out. Seize assets and property, that shuts them up and shuts them down, fast. "I think" that's where most have gone. We may ask if same will happen to the radical wings of Far Left groups, though I'm not a clever enough prognosticator to go there. Frankly, I hope so: I don't mind them speaking (though disagree), but burning and pulling down every last monument to rebuild society in some sick image: nuh uh. When they come for the Catholic Church, as they well may, it will be that "...and then they came for me, and no one was left to speak up!" meme from the 1930s or so when the National Socialists consolidated ....legally, btw....in Germany. Freakshows like that CAN happen anywhere, for those who truly understand human society, on either Right or Left.

Calling non-hate, patriot groups hateful is a SLDC ploy. They're as bad as any Far Left Pravda BS, when you study carefully what they actually say, whom they go after, and whom they totally ignore.
