In my opinion these are on the traditional/authentic side.

I also like Fiesta Mexicana on Grand (south hill).

Spokane could use a more upscale Mexican place because there is much more to Mexican cuisine than tacos/rice/beans etc. That said, I enjoy all of the places I listed.
Kena got it mostly right, being a ex-native Southern Californian I grew up on and ate authentic Mexican food for over 40 years, so to say that Spokane lacks greatly in the Mexican restaurant area would not be a understatement - most are sadly well below average.

I would stay far away from Casa de Oro and Rancho Chico, they were both bad. Azteca is a chain restaurant that is just average but edible, Fiesta Mexicana that Kena recommends also falls into the same category.

Deleon's is the best for pure authenticity, while a couple of other recommendations would be Pueblo Amigo and El Gallo Giro on Sprague.

Good luck

What's become popular in this area(north of Seattle) are taqueria's(sp?). Just little places where you can get a simple, yet satisfying meal, for a few bucks. Do you find those much in Spokane? :~) D

Thumbs up Azteca

The Azteca at the Valley Mall is the best one in Spokane/N.Idaho area to me!

I think Kena or someone else posted this link once before about Spokane restaurants. I like it because it reviews all the unique "bistro" type places that have opened in the past few years that many people aren't as familiar with as they are with the "chain" names.

tasteeverythingonce: the only restaurant guide in spokane

There are quite a few some are good, most are average and some are down right scary (food and sanitation wise).

Hi all,

This is my first post here on the boards, so a shout out to all the North-East Washingtonians here. :-) I wanted to drop my 2 cents in regarding Mexican restaurants, Rancho Alegre in Deer Park and Newport is one of our favorite places to eat mexican food. DeLeons has them beat for authenticity, but other than that I won't willingly eat anywhere else.

If you go way up north on 395 before you really head out of spokane there is a new little place called camino real. they've been in business for a little over a year now and they're pretty good. Stay away from the rancho chico at the y. They're terrible. The rancho chico on northwest blvd is alright. Those are my favorites. If you go way up north to colville, the rancho chico there is amazing!

I'll second the vote for Camino Real, they are good to very good using a Spokane rating system. Food is close to authentic and value is good.

I've only tried Rancho Chico at the Y and yes they are terrible.

Although it was mentioned before Tacos Tumbras is probably my number 2 place to go after Deleon's
