The Azteca on 200 W Spokane Falls Blvd is good atmosphere and food is very good.. We also enjoy the Palenque Mexican Restaurant in Liberty Lake, yum....and the other one I can think of is the Casa De Oro on Division Street.. nice business, food is very traditional. and last but surely not least is the MI Casa Tagueria on 15th Ave.. Take your pick.......

casa de oro hands down! there are 3 that i know of (division, valley and south hill) and the SH one is our absolute favorite. having lived in LA, i know what authentic mexican cooking should taste like and case de oro was the only place that can live up to it. we tried Azteca and wasn't impressed.

Do they still have Senior Froggys? I know it's Mexican fast food, but it was better than the other chains in town.

Yes, Senor Froggy is still here - and you're right, it's not bad for fast food Mexican. There's also a place that opened on W. Francis in an old Kentucky Fried Chicken called "Pueblo Amigo". I have not tried it yet but it's supposed to be very good authentic Mexican dining. I've seen some good reviews about it -- they have margaritas, too

My suggestions:

De Leon (downtown and on Francis).

Taqueria Guerrero in the valley.

Tacos Tumbras (one on Sprague in the valley and on North Division).

In my opinion these are on the traditional/authentic side.

I also like Fiesta Mexicana on Grand (south hill).

Spokane could use a more upscale Mexican place because there is much more to Mexican cuisine than tacos/rice/beans etc. That said, I enjoy all of the places I listed.

I moved up here from Southern California a few years ago. As a latino, I would definitely recommend De Leon's for authenticity. Casa del Oro and Azteca are also good (though Azteca is... well, they confused the words camarones and pollo (shrimp and chicken) in some of their menu items). I have yet to try Palenque and Pueblo Amigo, though I've heard good things about them.
