Default Help in Spokane

I recently moved here from the Pacific Islands to get out of a very dangerous domestic violence situation. I was born and raised here. All my searches to find a place to live were on line. I have a nice place but the closest bus is a mile away.

I need a car to look for a job and then to get to the job. I have a lot of baggage as far as bad credit from my marriage so finding financing has been really hard.

Does anyone at all have any suggestions as to what I can do.

Well, you have a few options. First off, you can walk. You'd need to live close to work to do this, but you can do it.

Second, you can walk to the bus station and take the bus to work. You don't actually *need* a car to get around to look for a job. Granted, it certainly helps, but it isn't necessary.

You could also go to a homeless shelter and maybe talk to a counselor there. There are programs for poor people that will help you get a vehicle, but to be perfectly honest, I forget what they are called.

Or you could just get a job... save up about a thousand or two dollars and then buy a clunker until you can get a better vehicle.

What part of town do you live in, and what is it that you do for a living, or want to do for a living?

Thank you for your reply. I have looked at all those options. When looking for a place to live and work, I selected the Valley. Everything I did was on the internet. I got a place but it was hard to look for work on the internet when you can't be available for the interview except by phone. Where I got my place, I did not find out until the active job search began, that I am not close to a bus line.

I don't have a problem wanting to get a job and saving the money for a clunker. It's getting to the interviews.

I am an Executive Admin. Assist. and Certified Paralegal. I have the qualifications, just not the job openings.

Thank you for your suggestions.

Do you have any family here that could possibly help you out? How about friends? Not being close to a bus line really stinks, and the Valley is fairly sprawled out. Good luck getting to the interviews.

Family consists of aging mother who has had four accidents in the past two weeks. I would want to help her out as well. I'm not familiar with insurance laws in Washington but my offer to drive her around in her car was refused because "only she is insured to drive the car" I find that difficult to believe, but it's her choice. Because of her driving record lately, I prefer NOT to ride with her.

Thank you for your suggestions. I do take them to heart.

Typically it is the vehicle that is insured, not the driver. And in the majority of the cases, drivers over 25 are covered, regardless of who the driver is. Perhaps you could take a look at her insurance policy and see what it says. It's possible that she is merely misinterpreting the information that she has. Or maybe call her insurance company and find out what you can.

Obviously, if she would let you borrow her car that might be optimal, if only for a couple of weeks.
