Smile Living in Riverside State Park area

Hello! My husband and I grew up in the Spokane area, and we are hoping to move back soon. We will need to be close to Fairchild AFB. Is the Riverside State Park area a nice place to live? (I don't really know how else to term the area.) It's such a beautiful area, and it isn't too far a drive from Fairchild, it seems. Any other areas within a 20 minute drive of Fairchild AFB that you might recommend as a good area to live in and raise a family? I'm not all that familiar with that area. Thank you!

Jessy - The areas surrounding Riverside State Park are beautiful, lots of trees and privacy. Not too many homes, but you might be able to luck out and find something. Along the river, prices tend to be much higher than other neighborhoods. THere is a subdivision called Parkside on the Green that backs up to RIverside Park and to SUndance golf course that you might like. Lots of families w/kids....
Many of the folks who work at Fairchild will live somewhere on the west side of Spokane county. There's Airway Heights -- although it's the most heavily populated, it is not very pretty. Kind of flat and unattractive - not many trees. I would focus more on the areas north of Airway Heights off of the back roads that lead down to Hwy. 2.

Thank you for your response! It's very helpful! I did a search for "Parkside on the Green" homes for sale, and it looks like a perfect place for us! Right on Riverside State Park, so to speak. How perfect! We could go mountain biking, hiking, camping whenever! Love it. THANK YOU for telling me about that.

Any other suggestions people want to add is more than welcome!

It is a lovely area with nice homes. We drove around there on the north side of Indian Trail. I don't think we saw any "bad" looking houses. The streets all have nice names, too--something that's important to my husband. Silly, huh? I don't think I could get him to live on G Street or Ferret(He doesn't particularly like numbered streets either)! Unfortunately, it just seems like it's so far from town and the airport where my husband would be working. Wouldn't it be over 30 minutes from Fairchild? The drive up Indian Trail seemed like it would be bad in the winter, too.
I had friends that really liked Airway Heights, but the name sounds awful. However, it's close to major shops and there are a lot of newer homes at very decent prices. On the map, I like the Thorpe/Westwood area for its proximity to the airport and town. There have been a few nicer homes for sale there, but they really vary--dumps across the street from million dollar houses. I want something in between and where I won't feel too embarassed to be driving my 2000 mini van with a slight dent in the side. lol. Still, we know it's all about location give and take, and what you're willing to give up to get the most of what you want. Good Luck! :~) D

Thank you, everyone, for your suggestions!

Deena160...I like nice names for streets and towns, too. As far as Airway Heights, it seems to be so dry and flat out there, but I haven't actually driven around there too much. I do know people like there, but it's all what you like. We will definitely look around more seriously out there when the time comes to move, but we would sure like to be somewhere a little "prettier."
