Default Wheat fields in Spokane area

Our family is considering moving to Liberty Lake (from California), but we have some concerns. My daughter is severely allergic to wheat, and I've heard that wheat is a significant crop in Eastern Washington.

Can anyone tell me how close the wheat fields are to the Spokane/Liberty Lake communities? Does anyone else have wheat or gluten allergies, and if so, has it affected you living in this area?

Thanks for any information.

Liberty Lake itself is pretty suburban. As you probably know, there are tons of newer homes for sale. When we drove from Spangle to Cheney(south) there were oceans of wheat fields. With a good breeze it's bound to have some affect on people who were allergic to the pollen. You'd have to consult with your doctor about how someone with gluten allergies might be affected to wheat pollen. It's kind of two different issues--nasal vs. digestion. :~) D

There will be some in the area, but the oceans of it don't start until further south and west of Spokane...

My daughter has gluten allergies, but living in the middle of a wheat field didn't seem to bother her...only eating it.

Default Wheat Allergy

My daughter has a food allergy (from eating wheat), not a pollen allergy -- so it sounds like it wouldn't be too much of a problem. Thanks for the info!

I live 12 miles south of downtown Spokane off highway 195. There are wheat fields surrounding my home for miles (mostly to the south). I don't know how sensitive wheat allergies are but it is technically upwind from town. If not an airborne allergy then you have nothing to worry about. We don't force wheat on anyone any more. :-)
