Default Tax Question

We've received our accessor's notice from Snohomish County this week. Our home's value dropped CONSIDERABLY(about 16.5%). So, a few questions: Are the Spokane area's assesements done yearly as well and if so, have your values dropped a lot, too? Will the lower assessements cause the housing prices to lower more, or are they just catching up to what the market has already done? Thanks, :~) D

All of our prices have dropped but my assessment went up, by $ 9170. Spokane County is ridiculous on their assessments and they make it almost impossible to win and appeal. I appealed last years and had a certified appraiser using multiple comps show that my house was worth about $ 70,000 LESS and we still lost. And you can't appeal and appeal without jumping through major hoops. On their website they brag that only a couple of people have 'ever' won an appeal.I don't think assessments have anything to do with prices of houses. We sold a house in CA 5 years ago that was assessed at just under 300K yet it sold for 647K

It's not like they'll probably drop our taxes significantly! Even if they do drop them, they'll figure out some other way of getting their pound of flesh.
It'll be the "$30" car tabs all over again. I got my new $30 tabs the other day--I think they finally cost me $78 after all the fees and crap were added on. :~/ D
