What companies/passenger trains service Spokane? Googling I only found Amtrack. IIRC I think a colleague said he took a train from Spokane to Vegas recently - is that possible? I didn't see THAT route on Amtrack.

There's a station downtown (Sprague/Bernard/1st) that both Amtrak and Greyhound (yes, I know Greyhound is buses) use.

Why would anyone (besides someone afraid of flying) take Amtrak? Granted, I did enjoy the Amtrak trips I took as a kid, but it isn't very cost-effective and takes much longer than flying (no wonder Amtrak is a moneypit ). From Spokane, it would take at least two days to get to Vegas by train, which would probably include going through Seattle and Los Angeles, and would possibly include taking an Amtrak bus. Why go through the hassle?

I heard on the news yesterday that some airline (I believe Southwest) is currently offering round-trips to Las Vegas for only $79 (out of Spokane).

Of course there's always the good ol' free BN&SF.

Thanks for the info; I was just curious. I think my colleague may indeed have a fear of flying, if I didn't misinterpret him.
