Since it's cold and drizzly again today, July fricking twelfth, I regaled myself with the free local smartass lefty sheet and found this:

Marc Maron showers Spokane with praise on his WTF podcast | Bloglander | The Pacific Northwest Inlander | News, Politics, Music, Calendar, Events in Spokane, Coeur d'Alene and the Inland Northwest

I'm out and about so haven't been able to listen to it yet but looking forward to it.

I know I've said it before but I love Spokane. I've lived in a lot of places and big cities but to me, Spokane is like a big small town. It has most everything we need or want and the people are laid back and friendly. Not a lot of pretension here. Sure it has its drawbacks but I've never heard of a place outside of Disneyland that doesn't.

He was a little off on the Dicks reference, but still pretty funny. His podcast is always pretty good, funny (and troubled) guy.

Oh no the cats out of the bag!! Now others will know that Spokane is a pretty cool city. We were just there last week and caught the bad weather, lake time was relaxing but boating and swimming was out...darn!!

I just hope when I land there it's full of Americans and not Communists like Portland was.

Ditto for the pretentiousness level. Portland is about an F5.

As far as the "coolness" factor (i.e. annoying liberalism factor) Spokane and Portland might as well be on different planets. I hope it stays that way.

If you're into all-electric automobiles Portland is a leader in that area - you'll find re-charge stations abound and you may be able to get tax breaks on all-electric car purchases as well if you're a Portland, OR, resident.

Spokane is about as cool as a kick in the crotch. It reminds me of a nicer Youngstown, Ohio.

Funny, I've always thought of it as an inferior Colorado Springs.

Now where did I put that jockstrap and cup? I have errands to run today.

What is "cool"? What does a place need to have so it is considered cool?
I am confused about the bitterness about Spokane and the area. It has a lot of amenities to offer. We haven't been able to visit everything yet and we have been here since August.
