What are some sports stats that still make your jaw drop. Team, individual, factoids, whatever. Two that stand out to me are:
The Tampa Bay Bucs did not return a kickoff for a TD until 2007, 32 seasons after they were founded.

A factoid that always surprises me is the latest draft slot to produce an NBA MVP was #15 in the first round. I think that really goes to show just how top heavy talent in basketball is, and what a massive drop there is after that. (For those of you wondering who it is, I'll give you a hint, it's MathGuys favorite player )
I guess this is no longer true as the last few drafts have changed it but up until a couple of years ago more Pro Bowlers were drafted in rounds 4, 5, and 6 than rounds 1, 2, and 3 in the NFL.
Bill Russell did not receive one letter of interest from any college (until USF, which he gladly accepted). He went on to average over 20 PPG and 20 RPG for them along with winning 2 National Championships. (USF's only NCAA NC's in Basketball)
Byron Nelson won 11 consecutive tournaments in 1945 in a year in which he won 18 times in 35 starts and finished 2nd another 7 times. Although the competition was a bit watered down because of WWII, Ben Hogan and Sam Snead competed with Nelson in most of those tournaments.
The next most consecutive wins in one year is 6 by Hogan (Woods won 7 in a row over two years '06/'07). 2nd most wins in one year is 13 by Hogan in 1946, Woods' most is 9 in 2000.
In the realm of obscure, Jug McSpaden has the record for most 2nd place finishes in one year, 13 in 1945, most often as a runner up to Nelson.
Orel Hershiser's 59 inning scoreless streak. That is nuts.
DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak is mind blowing, as well.
I always feel like hitting streaks are overrated, but Joe Ds is pretty awesome.

Golf is full of weird happenings/records, partially because its such an odd game and its been played for several hundred years. Somewhere, under an inch of dust, I have a book that is dedicated just to these happenings...Ill have to look up the name to give proper credit, during an early 20th century tournament, a woman had 156 strokes on a par three. Something to do with the ball floating in water and her taking off on a boat going hacking after it
Mark Reynolds striking out, 204 times is pretty unbelievable. I wouldn't believe it myself...but I watch him do it every night. Good Lord.
The top 7 all times season strike out kings at the plate have all been since 2004, thats pretty lol
