Hockey is a big sport in many towns including this one (Denver). What about Omaha? Its metro area is 700,000, more if you count Lincoln.

I think Ohio State gives Columbus enough sports....a great football and basketball team, no, some of the best football and basketball teams. Those guys may not be "officially" professional, but they're just a step below.

Hockey is a big sport in every city that has an NHL team. bottom-line. If the demand didn't exist for a hockey team, a city would not have an NHL team.

True, but the economic impact on a city isn't as significant for Hockey as the other larger sports.

Pro sports team locations are based on markets, not cities.

San jose does have a pro team in the Sharks, but regardless they are part of the San Fran market which has multiple pro sports teams

All the leagues right now though are already spread a little thin to expand.

Given Vegas' status as the gambling center, I am not sure how the leagues feel about putting a team there.

Good point, especially since that referee in the NBA has recently been accused of betting in NBA playoff games. Now that you mention that, I would never put a team in a city that promotes gambling like Vegas does...the stakes are too high IMO.
