If you want dog sports, there are lots of agility competitions you can go to or enter your dog in. Dog fighting is no sport. What about high school kids fighting in school? What about bullies picking on weaker students? What about Columbine? Are those sports? What about muggers who will shoot someone for the $20 in their purse and run from the cops, would you call that a sport? No, you call it a crime.
Nothing new, but just to concur with previous posters, "human fighting" involves two people making the conscious decision to engage in sport; dog fighting does not.
humans have been fighting in battle for many years. In the roman times gladiators fought to the death for amusement for others, so why wasn't that outlawed? I think that boxing and UFC and any other sport is generally the same. I think that maybe the rules for dogfighting should change. Or maybe a substitute for it should be made.

It was outlawed. Hop in the Delorean and come join the rest of us in 2007.
True, dogs don't have a choice because they are animals. But I am not debating the choice issue. I am questioning the legality issue. Just because a person chooses to get into the ring and fight, thus risking life and limb, that doesn't make it right from a legal stand point. In the same way that LAWS are in place to prevent dogs from fighting, why isn't it against the law for humans to fight. That's my point. Illegal fighting should be illegal fighting be it by dogs or humans.
So, based upon your answer, are you saying that it is ok for humans to fight and kill each other because they choose to?
First of all, the CHOICE to do so has everything to do with the legality. If you choose to work all day in the hot sun, that is your choice; it is illegal for someone to make you do that against your will (unless you're already in prison).
Secondly, human beings risk being hurt in any sport, and yes you can certainly die. But, they don't fight "to the death."
in dog fighting they fight to the death...in boxing, kickboxing, cagefighting...there are rules and referees there so no one dies or sustains serious injuries (although it has happened before)...and the choice thingis a big issue
also have you ever heard how they train some of those dogs...the owner steals family pets out of back yards just to fight their dog...think sparky ran away? na he was mauled by a dog training to kill more dogs
when 2 people get into the ring to fight they have made that choice, yet when 2 dogs are put into a ring they have no choice, you do know that dogs are starved for days sometimes weeks then given little dogs to pratice on,they are beaten to be made tough,
