I can't put him in there yet because he has only won 1 Major championship. He has not been as dominant as Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic over the past 3-5 years.

I'm not saying that Murray isn't a great tennis player, he's just in an age where there are 3 better players than him. He did excellently to win the US Open and the Gold at the Olympics, but it's still only 1 Major.

I think Murray's biggest problem is that he's pretty much a counter-puncher. He's obviously an excellent defensive player, and in the case of his victory over Djokovic, can grind out victories using that strength. The main difference between he and the top 3 are that those guys all play excellent defense and offense. Djokovic had a number of uncharacteristic unforced errors in the U.S Open final, which aided Murray in pulling it out.

In order for him to truly break into that top 3, he's going to need to add a bit of punch behind his offense. Federer is exiting his prime and will probably be a serious grand slam threat for another 2 seasons, which gives Murray a chance to enter into the top 3 discussion( assuming no-one else pops up), but Djokovic and a (healthy) Nadal are your dominant threats to win majors for the foreseeable future and they're only 25-26 years old.

What I am saying is that, if Djokovic wins the Australian Open, it's no shocker. The same applies to Nadal, Federer, and, yes, Murray. That's why I think he belongs in the top tier.

It will be a shocker if say, Tsonga wins the Australian Open, because he is not a member of that group.
