Being ranked No. 1 is not dominance. Being ranked No. 1 and winning Majors is dominance. It's all about the Majors in this sport. It doesn't matter that Nadal or even Serena haven't spent the most time at No. 1. In Serena's case, she hasn't even won that many titles. But people remember the Slams they win and that's all people will ultimately care about.

Nadal's tally doesn't need to rise much more. He's already got 12 Slams. He's already up there with Borg and Sampras as far as I'm concerned. Djokovic, on the other hand, is the one that doesn't have much time left. Nadal is only a year older but yet has double the Slams he has.

^^^ You seem to neglect the fact that even 6 Grand Slams is still equal 10th on the list (Open Era):

List of Grand Slam men's singles champions - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And this number will be added to, so McEnroe and Wilander, and then Agassi, Lendl et al are all within sights.
There is still ample time.
This does not compare to 1 Grand Slam, you can have a little bit of luck and still win 1.
