Forget the exact year, but it was in the late 80's and Greg LeMond had it in his contract that he had to do so many races in one season to collect his last paycheck. He was still one race short and it was November. So he showed up unannounced to a local criterium in Arizona and did the race. Couple of guys on my team still have the pictures of them duking it out with LeMond at the finish line.

One of the sales reps who called on my bike shop was Greg LeMond's best man at his wedding. So got to hear lots of tales of what Greg was like off the bike.

Can't wait to watch Stage 3 in its entirety
There was talk that Gerrans should win this one, but I couldn't stay awake

Tour de France 2013 - Stage 3 - YouTube

Great, close win
1st stage win for Orica

... And Corsica is stunning.

Here's the deal: don't visit a thread about the Tour if a stage is over and you don't know who won yet. Discussion of the race as it unfolds is fair game. Common sense dictates watching the race first.

Congrats to Simon Gerrans of OrricaGreenedge. I like how Phil gave the victory to Sagan though. Phil should not assume that Sagan is unbeatable at the line. Cavendish is another story.

And how cool would it be to visit Corsica? That country surely will see an increase in tourism now.

I'm watching it on occasion if theres nothing else on, not really into bicycling and couldnt name a single participant, what does interest me is the photography of the amazing scenery in Corsica,,some of the shots from the helicopters are breathtaking.

even better after Stage 4 (Which I haven't watched yet.. )
An interesting tour so far....so far OricaGreenEdge has made headlines each day

I like that it was the first time the tour has gone through Corisca, in 100 years. A very nice way to start the race.

1987 would have been a tall order. Stephen Roche was on the best season during my lifetime, winning the Giro, the Tour and the World's. Frail rider, but when he was healthy, there was no more elegant rider in the peloton.

People always characterize the 1989 Tour as LeMond vs. Fignon. They forget in 1989 that the defending champ, Pedro Delgado, inexplicably missed his start time for the prologue by two minutes. Delgado put time into Fignon and LeMond on multiple mountain stages. Who knows how it would have turned out if Delgado had just showed up on time for the prologue. I actually think LeMond may have only been the third strongest rider in that Tour.

All that said, without question the most gifted rider the U.S. has ever produced. Andy Hampsten, who rode with both LeMond and Armstrong, confirms this. Just an absolute horse.
