Li Na yesterday
But bombing out in the next slam / tournaments is nothing new for first time slam winners or youngsters who have just had a deep run in a big tournament...

Didn't Schiavone also lose in the first round at Wimbledon in 2010?

Her inconsisten self Bu then again, she hasn't done anything at the French since her win in 2011...but she has always done well at the warm up events..

Li Na, the eternal headless brainfarting former tennis player <3

We're not talking about women and their 3 setters.

SHOCKER: Serena loses to Muguruza 6-2 6-2...Serena was terrible but Garbine was GREAT
My jaw is on the floor, this is more shocking than even Razzano.

That's some upset. 2 and 2 to. Pretty impressive. Before last year she had never been past the 1st round and now she's a regular in the 3rd and 4th rounds, one to watch. Only 20.

Serena is now rising 33, her dominance cannot last forever.
She does not have unlimited time now to go past the likes of Evert, Navratalova and Graf.
The last couple of years or so she has had no real serious challengers, unlike in her mid-career whereby the likes of Henin, Klijsters etc (and even Venus Williams - at Wimbledon) were all sharing in the spoils.
Her late career surge has book-ended her career very well, that may now slowly fade.

No, what I meant was that I was shocked that the fraud was finally demolished and people aren't choking as much

Serena is nothing without her serve. She has an inflated grand slam count, too, with half of her slams coming from the supposed "weak era" 2009-present. Her only competition was Azarenka the past couple of years...glad to see that we all know who the truly talented sister is--Venus

Tsonga seems unstoppable. Well, at least until he meets Djokovic.

I agree to an extent, although take nothing away from Serena, she is a powerhouse player.
Her lead at Number 1 at the moment is still phenomenal, and she should hold it for a while yet.
Opponents like Sharapova and Azarenka though Serena has owned in the last 3 years, and it was no coincidence that they were Runners Up in the French and US respectively last year to Serena.
Azarenka has been particularly disappointing in their match ups, she looked a chance in the US last year after winning Cincy, but could not handle the pressure of Serena being on the other side of the net in NY and choked for the 2nd year in a row there.
Sharapova has had an interesting career - a career Grand Slam by winning each Major only once over an 8 year period, and is now arguably the favorite this year in Paris. (she won this event in 2012).
