So nobody takes the distinction that todays players are on another level? You telling me that Tottenham, the 7th best football team in England, wouldn't have walked the league even in the mid 90's? Can you not make the distinction - even the great players of 80s/90s admit this crop of tennis players are on another planet.
You know it would be interesting to know how the players become 'rated' in everyone's eyes.
Is it based purely on slams, games win, tournaments won etc etc? Really I'd say top 5 top 10 rankings can also benefit when many variables are added to the mix of evaluation. All would get their 'weights' in the analysis.
As noted, Connors did not come up as much as other players but I'd suggest he probably more than any other American player ( but I'll add Mac!) drive Anerican tennis not only on the court but in the culture itself. I mean when he was playing 'everybody' in America was out there buying T2000's (ok they couldn't control it but they didn't care!) and blasting forehands all over the courts. He was a tennis firebrand in stoking the sports popularity here. I'd give him great credit for that.

If players of generations past had the opportunity to use the same equipment and had access to the same training techniques as today's players, most of them still would have been dominant players.
You show me someone from the 80s as fit as Rafa, Andy, Novak, Roger etc. What did the not have a road to run on and weights in the 80s haha.
