Who are/were the best color commentators or analysts in broadcasting of each sport?
I'll throw out a few nominees:
Baseball, Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling of the Mets both very good, and Joe Simpson of the Braves. I also like Steve Blass in Pittsburgh. And Steve Stone
Football: None that I am particularly impressed with. I just hear the same 3 or 4 over and over again, with all games on regional coverage on national neworks.
Basketball: Al Maguire was the best. Now, Jim Barnett at Golden State is very good.
Hockey: Howie Meeker was great. Darren Pang in St. Louis is good.
Michelle Tafoya is in a class by herself, among the female sideline commentators. Well, along with much-maligned Susan Waldman.
College hoops, team division: Verne Lundquist/Bill Raftery
Sideline commentator: No such beast exists anywhere in any sport.
