I'm going for boxing. It's a rough sport and it's one hundred percent contact. You have to be in physical shape to compete. Wrestling, mixed martial arts, and cheerleading are hard to train for also because you have to be willing to train for it and you must be in good, physical shape. I ran in cross country one year in high school and hated it. It was really hard because of some of the hills.

Buzkashi, limited access to properly trained Mongolian ponies, lack of appropriate fields in most metropolitan areas, relatively few players to practice with and almost unanimous disapproval by local PETA groups has led me to mostly chase barn cats around the paddock on a too small BMX bike

Cycling. Go out there on the roads for 3-6hours a day dealing with traffic and every kind of road and weather condition. It's brutal.

decathlon. you have to train for TEN different events;

100-meter dash
long jump
shot put
high jump
400-meter dash
110-meter hurdles
discus
pole vault
javelin
1,500-meter run

an iron man triathlon would also be a very tough sport, three different events

2.4 mile swim
112 mile bike race
26.2 mile run

one right after the other, no rest between events.

Tough? I guess its all how you perceive it. I would go for Wrestling/MMA myself. The combination of strength and endurance.

Ironman Triathlon? I couldn't do it. But then, I wonder how hard it is to train verse the sheer volume of training.

Football at higher levels, isn't physically difficult to train for, but requires a lot more mental focus watching film for long hours, especially for certain positions.

Boxing(not MMA). I like the other comments too, but Boxing is a mental and physical challenge. When your physically exhausted and there are still 4 or 5 rounds to go and you opponent still attacking you.

If you love that sport, training is easier. Boxing training is definitely easier for me than training for sport which im hate. When i was attending college (physical education), volleyball and soccer classses was hell for me.

The reason why I say cross country is hard to train for because you'd have to run miles. It was brutal when I went out.
