The World Series. Baseball will always be #1 to me. Unfortunately, in our "instant gratification" society, people just want fast-paced and more physical contact. I still appreciate the pace and strategy of baseball. Nothing like being outside on a nice summer night with a hot dog and a beer watching baseball. Also, having baseball on almost every night of the spring and summer is great.

Final Four...the passion and electricity- all of the activities in the days before the games...school spirit. Pro sports have become way too much of a corporate juggernaut in modern day society. The Super Bowl most of all has become a joke with the prohibitive costs and all the stories of the activities and costs catered to the rich and famous. True big time athletics have gotten out of control too, but there is a purity that still exists when you are subjucated to a college sports environment that is unmatched, particularly the Final 4, even first round games and conference tournaments at times.

To me it is the Super Bowl, most watched event every year. I think March Madness is right up there too. I don't like deciding a champion in a best of 7 series. The only time I see it holding any weight is in baseball, because of the pitchers. The NHL and NBA have all of their best players playing, they don't need a best of 7. The Derby is good, but the pre-game is hyped more than even the Super Bowl. Hours of analysis for a 2 min. run, atleast the Super Bowl is a 60 min. game.

The Super Bowl.... easy. The only sporting event that so hyped, the day it's held is known as America's Unofficial Holiday.
The other mega events, except for the Kentucky Derby, are huge, but they just don't add up.

To the people that put down pro sports for being too commerical and act like they're some kind of purists for watching Div I college sports. Please, give me a break....Div I college sports are just as commercial as the pros. Money unfortunately governs the sport, and in a lot of cases decides who makes the NCAA tournament, and in college football, who makes the bowl games. How many of the best Div I athletes even use their scholarships to get a college degree, instead of going to the draft after their freshman or sophomore year?

If you were really an anti-commercialism purist, you would be a bigger fan of little league, high school, or even Div III college sports.

NCAA sports are not pure, that's for sure, but this whole idea that none of the athletes go to class or are simply utilizing the college ranks as a minor league farm system is way off base. These players, even on the 1-A scale, are in the minority, not majority. At least also they choose where they attend school. Pro sports have become completely trivial- money buys players and players generally don't even RESIDE in the cities they represent. The cost to attend is ridiculous. The atmosphere for an NBA game vs college is laughable and most in attendance couldn't decipher the difference between a 2-3 and a 3-2 style zone. There are pros and cons to NCAA sports (particularly football and hoops), but what has become of professional sports is just plain pathetic. Both are littered with corruption, but the steroids, constant player swapping, costs, Canadian cities losing their hockey teams to places in the sunbelt, whiny millionaires not showing up to do their job because they can't get that extra mil. tacked onto a $20 million-a-year deal...and on-and-on...big whoop.

Nothing compares to the Super Bowl. Its the biggest and most watched spectacle on TV every year even surpasing the Oscars. Hockey, NASCAR and Horse Racing are really regional sports that have huge interest but only in certain parts of the country. You wont see people in Los Angeles getting fired up about Dale Earnhardt, Jeff Gordon or the Canucks. But you will see just about everyone with an interest in the SuperBowl.

Boxing could be the next biggest after the SuperBowl if fighters would actually fight other good fighters. This is why its on PPV because its ususally such a huge event that people would be willing to pay $60.00 just to watch it. Doubt we'll ever seen NASCAR or Hockey on PPV as they just arent that huge and doesnt have that huge of a market other than regionally.
