2008 Olympics
Here>>
The Official Website of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games
Would there be enough interest in the Olympics to create a forum?
I posted this query in the admin forum.
It would probably need good moderation as every aspect of life seems to be affected by 'political controversy'.

As far as "political controversy" goes. Boycott the Olympics! HA

Exactly.
Today--I don't really want to think about what would happen if the US decided to boycott the Olympics. I really think a button will someday be pushed by someone who has little concern for 'human rights'/life and that will be that.
Maybe we cannot discuss the Olympics. That is why I asked.

Sadly, outside of the political aspects of the Olympics, I think people have generally lost interest in the Olympics.
The winter Olymics either run during Football season or College Basketball. And the summer events are not interesting enough to keep people indoors to watch them, plus baseball is on in the summer.
People would rather watch A-Rod hit a homer than watch Olaf from Sweden throw a rock.

Boycotting the Olympics is BS. It does absolutely nothing but make pawns out of athletes who work their ahzzes off to get to the ultimate sporting event.
Now, if politicians were actually competing, it would be a different story.
While I think what the Chinese Gov't is doing to their people, especially what is going on in Tibet, is deplorable. This is nothing new. The IOC selection committee knew what it was getting into when they chose Beijing.

I think you are right.
I'm not a big sports fan. I enjoyed some of the track, swimming, diving, cycling and even gymnastics once.
Rather disgusted with how professional athletes have conducted themselves in several of these sports.
How I feel about the political negotiations that are involved in even selecting a host city --I don't feel free to post on a message board.
My city hasn't been the same since it marketed itself to host 'The Games'. Some of us smolder in silence.

Does anybody even watch the summer olympics anyways?? I know the winter games are huge, but you never hear a whisper about the summer games.

I'm one of those whackos who wake up at all hours of the night to watch live. The Athens games weren't too bad, the Sydney games were brutal .... so the Beijing games will be sleepless for me too. I love that NBC puts the Olympics on every stinking one of their channels! Love it love it love it! Can't wait. And if Chicago gets the 2016 games, that will be me dancing in the streets.

the winter olympics are sick. summer...ehhhhh. I mean, it's sweet to watch the US dominate other countries but I can see that on CNN too.
