Mgt. has decided to tank with the aim of nailing high draft choices, a la the NBA 76ers, and possibly some NFL teams.
1) If you're a player, would you give less than 100% and relinquish the opportunity to score and make big plays, knowing how hard you worked to get this far, and the short length of time for the avg. career even in the best of circumstances?
2) If you're a coach, would you develop a game plan to ensure loss, play substitutes when your first team is healthy and available, etc., thereby jeopardizing your resume for the future?
In other words, would you shoot yourself in the foot?

There are no guarantees that those high draft choices will even be all that good at the professional level! So many examples of poor play by these once wonderful college all-stars! Exceptions, of course...
So for any teams to knowingly tank is to definitely hurt yourselves in the interim, and perhaps even well into the future. Players & coaches should always remain at their professional best and leave the draft to itself as well.
Easy, money - or easy money. They get paid either way. Put out less effort and take less wear on the body. Players/coaches say it's all about winning but it's not. It's about getting paid. Fans should never forget this.

But if you're a e.g., wide receiver with X no. of receptions and you could have had 20 more receptions, couldn't this bite you in the ass when you're looking for your new contract two years hence?
Same thing with a coach who's being interviewed down the road by another team and he has less victories on his resume than he could've had.
i personally would not tank a game or season for any reason. in the end in life the only things we have to tell people who we are is our reputations, which we build painstakingly over time. if we tank a game/match/race, then we take a huge hit to our reputation, and at that point money doesnt really matter then does it?
in the future, potential fans would be looking at you and asking arent you that guy that shaved points in several games?

Sure, before the leagues were awash in 100mil contracts but not so much now. Players will still look for their personal numbers but winning becomes a lower priority when you make profit either way. Sad stuff.

What percentage of NFL players have 100M contracts?
What percentage of NFL coaches have 100M contracts?
Enough. The money gets to where it is now and the focus changes. It's inevitable and it shows in the product.
I'm not sure anyone in the NFL has a guaranteed $100M contract but could stand corrected. Perhaps QBs and some "skill" position players. Certain position players like OL are making 6 figures, great for most of us, but when you consider how short their careers are, 3.3 years I believe, I can't see any on those guys tanking. For those "worker bees," the payoff is their 2nd contract several years down the road. Tanking would be shooting themselves in the foot.
