It all depends on the individual. I know a lot of folks that made the transition from skis to board. The general rule is that skiing is easier to pickup, but harder to get good at. While snowboard is hard to pickup, but easy to get good at.
Thus - depending on how good you are on skis, there may be a level of frustration you'll need to deal with. But the best way to do this is just take an intro lesson. They typically have these packages where you get a lift ticket, equipment rental, and a lesson for just a bit more than a ticket will cost (I'm on the east coast - so YMMV).
