Zverev? Are you kidding me? Fizzling our against a washed up Kohlschreiber? I don’t know what this guy’s issue is in majors.

Exactly, A Zverev should not be losing to a 34 yo and a 34th Ranked journeyman and also countryman.
He now has 3 x 3rd Round appearances, and 1 x QF in the Majors for this year.
Not good enough for the 4th world ranked and seeded player, which is why he has hired Ivan Lendl to his team, to try to take him to the next level at the Slams.

And he was fortunate to get as far as he even did at Wimbledon, with some narrow escapes vs inferior players. Something in the back of my head told me it was going to be different this time at the US Open. And he broke Kohl. right off the bat in the first game, and I thought right away, yup this was going to be a breeze today for Zverev. What a major disappointment this guy is. And while maybe we should be use to it, losing 3 straight sets to Kohlschreiber leaves me more speechless than anything else that has occurred in this US Open.

Kevin Anderson, last years Finalist, has crashed out to Dominic Thiem:

https://www.sport24.co.za/Tennis/USO...-open-20180902

Thiem is a solid player, although probably more well known as a clay courter, and advances to play against Nadal in the QFs.
2 other Round of 16 (4th Round) matches to be played today:

Isner vs Raonic (in the clash of the monster servers)

Delpo vs Coric

I wasn’t surprised with that Anderson loss to a Thiem. While Thiem hasn’t been at the top of his game, Anderson has hit more of a wall ever since his run to the Wimbledon final. Honestly, I still haven’t been impressed in relative terms with any of the top players in recent months past Nadal. Perhaps Isner is the one second tier player remaining who could perhaps surprise and win this thing.

Federer out, losing to Aussie battler and journeyman, John Millman:

Fed has not done so well at the USO in recent times, so the loss was not a huge surprise, but still an upset.

Defending womens champion, Sloane Stephens also out:

This was unexpected, against 19th seed Latvian, Anastasija Sevastova.

I don't know why this tournament can't be delayed a few weeks due to the hot and humid NYC weather. Its causing too many top players to burn out in matches and lose. Its makes for fewer fan interest once Fed, and the bigger names lose due in part to the heat. The interest will be the same in Late September vs now, why not??

The temperature and humidity is the same for players on each side of the net.
