Two leagues I don't watch (both American football leagues) seem to have the most passionate fans.

NBA seems to be the most casual.

If you throw in Soccer/MLS, varies by region. But some areas are absolutely nuts about their team.

I think College Basketball fans are pretty passionate and crazy. It depends to an extent on the arena, but during the run-up to the final four, those crowds get really noisy. Outdoor stadiums get noisy also, but the sound has somewhere to go. Indoor arenas, the sound just bounces around. Even smaller venues, around 10,000 or so can get crazy loud.

The NHL might be the most loyal, dedicated and serious fans out there but it's like 2% of the sports world so nobody notices them. All but 6 teams average 90% of their capacity. The bottom three teams fill up 76%, 76% and 71%, so even the bottom feeders like Arizona, Carolina and the Islanders still draw good. Plus the season ticket waiting lists are extremely long and NHL ticket prices are very high almost NBA height and a lot more in some cities like Chicago.

As a whole, I think hockey fans are the most passionate. I don't even mean NHL specific, hockey fans at all levels.
