ESPN steps up rugby coverage
Expanding upon its existing relationship with USA Rugby, ESPN Inc has officially signed on to broaden its coverage to ESPN Classic and its live broadband sports network ESPN360.com
“This is a great opportunity for USA Rugby to build a partnership with ESPN, the world’s leader in sports programming,” said USA Rugby’s VP of business development David Voth.

Signs that rugby is starting to take off in the USA, good to see this happen.

Cool! Glad to hear this. I'm just starting to get into rugby. I watch whatever match is on Setanta in the morning as I'm getting ready for work.

Very cool! I don't know why they don't cover the NHL?

They lost the rights after the strike/holdout. They failed to negotiate a new contract.

They were also claiming that the ratings were terrible, but I don't believe it. I mean, I heard people saying that arena football was drawing in more viewers than playoff hockey on ESPN! I have a hard time imagining that.
Looking forward to the rugby coverage. It's such a fun game to watch. It's like going back in time and watching American football's great grandpappy.

Maybe America should first learn that there are two separate codes of rugby...

I think anyone who's spent any time watching rugby realizes there are two codes ...

I enjoy watching both! I'll bet most Americans would have an easier time grasping league play, since it's a little more like American football. Then that can be their gateway into union.
