How does ESPN select which athletes and mascots get to appear in a "This is SportsCenter" commercial at ESPN Headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut (or sometimes at ESPN's Los Angeles HQ)?

Like any large media company, they undoubtedly have a marketing team that comes up with various ideas for the commercials, and I'm sure what's "hot" at the time, be it an athlete or sporting event is on their radar to produce a commercial around that person/thing.
