In light of Sha’Carri Richardson’s continued struggles, it's nice to see two American sprinters who are on the cusp of worldwide stardom.

Erriyon Knighton's progression has been unreal, made the Olympics finals in the 200 meters last year as a 17-year old, and this year ran the fourth fastest time ever in the 200 meters.

The track and field world championships is being held in Hayward Field this year, first time ever in the United States so this should be exciting.

I'm really glad the college track athletes were able to compete this year. They lost a year of competitive events because of COVID-19. In basketball, a similar level of talent with Sabrina from Oregon in basketball lost her chance to shine because of the pandemic. But elite track athletes were able to compete now that the intensity has subsided with vaccines.

Now let me start by saying I don’t normally watch college track events so maybe this is obvious to you that do.
I’m surprised by what looks like a really big gap between the best college stars and the pros. Obviously I don’t expect the college kids to come out and win gold but the best of the best college stars don’t look competitive at all with the pros. Referring here to the women. Both Shacarri and especially Steiner dominated in college but frankly neither one looked like they would be able to compete for a medal at worlds. Obviously Steiner looked a million times better than Shacarri for a bunch of reasons but it looks like she’s going to have to wait for the Jamaicans to get old before she can win.

Some will say she’s very young but Shelly Ann was 22 when she won gold at Beijing. So is the standard of college that low?
