Default What sport(s) dominate your area?

Just curious on what sport(s) dominate your area on a professional, high school, and social level. Do the professional teams influence the type of sports that are played in the area amongst the youth. Im sure that there other variables that determines which sport(s) are most popular. Like here in Chicago baseball and football imo dominate the area on a professional level (post Jordan of course), but basketball and football are the most heavily played in schools and socially in the area. Im sure in places like Montreal football is something that the locals don't partake in much being that hockey dominates the region.

It's mostly all football in TN. The biggest pro franchise would the be Tennessee Titans, of course, but the University of TN is really on another level in terms of popularity. High school football is huge hear as well, even though my area produces better baseball players on a national level.

Football and basketball on the high school level. There's also a lot of wrestling around here for some reason. Baseball is fairly popular in high schools, too.
College: Basketball by a long shot, although football is popularly supported when Mizzou, Kansas, or Kansas State are doing well.
Pro: Football is currently a little more dominant, due to the Chief's winning reputation in the last 20 years, and the Royals' losing reputation in the last 20 years. The tide seems to be turning, though, because the Chiefs don't seem to have any direction, and the Royals, despite their struggles, are looking better and appear to have a logical plan to win. I just hope they don't dump Greinke, Soria, or DeJesus for more "prospects". Any more prospects, and I'll puke. We have talent, but just need to fill a couple of offensive holes.
There's not a competition between the Chiefs and the Royals for fans, but they rarely win at the same time.

All they talk about in Lexington KY is basketball. High School Basketball college basketball. The World Series could be on and high school basketball would still lead off the nightly sports. Oh and horse racing. Try to find any kind of a story about the NFL or MLB during Derby week in the paper is impossible.

Definitely Sooner football. Being the most dominate/storied college football program in history helps. It affects everything in OK in a good way.

Well its rugby overhere in New Zealand and we just lost to South Africa which means we lost for the first time at home in 10 years. I'm at boiling point right now.

But when I was over in Reno,NV basketball and football dominated and the main team supported were the San Francisco 49ers.

In ABQ, high school basketball and football are big. College basketball is king (think THE PIT!!). I think pro football would follow, with the dallas cowboys, denver broncos etc (no pro football here). College football is next (though this is climbing with UNM's recent success).

Its all about Sooner Football.
Jenks/Union H.S. football is very big as well being that it is rated as the number 1 rivalry in H.S football. A couple of years ago they got over 35,000 people in attendance, yes for a H.S football game. Its called the Backyard Bowl.

NFL network was on hand last year filming the game and it is ALWAYS televised locally. pretty cool.

The most dominate and storied football program in Oklahoma, yes, but in reality no. And being that you are from "Cowtown (Fort Worth?), Texas, I believe Longhorn/Aggie football are a bit higher on Texans list.

Here in Austin, football is king of course. I've heard the Longhorns are a bit popular.

Roller Derby is a very close second though.
