I like to watch some of the Olympic events; I am just not on the Phelps bandwagon, and I find it hard to care about someone breaking world records while they swim in a pool that is one meter deeper, wear body suits that have less resistance then skin and the lane dividers in the pool float differently and absorb the waves better. All of which makes all the swimmers faster.

but he's breaking his own world records from Athens and take a look at by what margin he's crushing his opponents. it has nothing to do with wave absorption or light traction body suits or deeper water. Stronger agitated water can catapult a swimmer faster towards the finish then all of the speed boosting mechanisms u listed.

Say what you like but this "Baltimore Bullet" is setting records that won't be broke for years. His very physique is made for the water. He probably does laps in the Chesapeake.

Grumble, grumble. So much for my celebrity crush. I'm in very good shape as well, but I have many "fat" friends (hell, most of America IS fat if you haven't all noticed). I wouldn't dare think of making them feel self-conscious because of their weight. Why must all of the attractive ones have an Achilles' Heel?

How quickly we forget that just a few years ago he got an underage DWI. I personally don't think anyone who does something as ridiculous and dangerous as driving under the influence should be allowed to represent our country in the Olympics. The fact that he obviously abuses(ed) alcohol makes me wonder if he's using some other substance now to enhance his performance. I certainly hope not.
I understand that we all make mistakes. However, it seems to me that when you're in the postion of representing your entire country to the world that the standards for behavior should be held very high.

I was completely unaware of his prior conviction. I have no sympathy for those charge with driving under the influence of alcohol, especially since a relative of mine was killed by a drunk driver shortly after I was born in the 1980s.

I'm sure he was just a typical jock but he does have a massive ego. the friend i speak of has a youtube channel. his "channel name" is coolduder.

Sorry about your loss. With the seriousness of DWI, I just really don't know how we could allow someone to come back an represent our country on the global stage. It seems that everyone is up in arms about these Chinese gymnasts who are slightly under the required age to compete when, really, I think what Phelps did 4 years ago is more serious than this current "scandal."
