I dont believe OKC is a "kid in a candy store" which was used as an ananogy for the high attendance and implied that it was the reason the NBA was a success.
Oklahoma City still watches the Hornets through basic cable when NOrleans cant. OKC still has a fanbase.
OKC hosts the Big twelve BB Tournament and is in regular rotation with Dallas and KC.
OKC basically supports and fills many of its venues from concerts to 85+thousand fans for Sooner football. Overall OKC is sports country. The NBA should do quite well here and create a loyal fanbase and continue if a NBA team were to permanantly stay.

Going off of numbers for that same year, they had more attendees than the NBA teams in Sacramento, Seattle, Philly, Memphis, NOLA, and Indiana. ESPN - NBA Attendance - National Basketball Association

Heck, UNC outdrew every NBA team except for Chicago and Detroit. Kentucky beat all NBA teams.

My point is that being outdrawn by a college team is neither rare nor embarrassing. Charlotte averages around the same attendance numbers as NC State, year to year, and draws fewer fans than the top 16 college teams, attendance wise.
The one problem with comparing college sports with professional sports is many schools sell tickets to the student section for next to nothing price. Prices that Pro teams wouldn't be willing to sell. Many D1 sporting schools sell tickets to there students for five bucks because they are charging the students 30,000 grand a year to go to the school. Selling 20,000 tickets for 5 bucks each to a lot of students is not the same thing as selling 20,000 tickets for 45 bucks each.

My picks:

1. Hartford, CT -- Plenty of disposable income in this city. Bring back the Whalers!
2. Oklahoma City, OK -- they've proved they are a major league city with their great support for the displace Hornets. I think MLB or NFL would be great here.
3. Louisville, KY -- NBA would be a good fit.
4. Virginia Beach, VA -- plenty of population, probably could support a MLB team.
5. Las Vegas, NV -- NFL in Vegas? Or NBA? It would awesome.
Yes Louisville needs an NBA team with a horse related name.

To those suggesting an NBA team in St. Louis, I disagree. I think an MLS team would be great, but I'm not sure St. Louis, as good of a sports city as it is, could support NBA + MLB, NFL, and NHL. MLS will probably be good since so many St. Louis kids play soccer apparently, but basketball tickets are pretty expensive and they'd have to share Scottrade Center with the Blues anyway.

Dave Checketts (owner of the Blues and someone who knows a lot about the NBA) himself said he doesn't think it would work.

I would like to see NHL in KC. I think it could work, as long as it's a winning team.

NFL maybe. MLB, no. OKC is too small of a market and is dominated by St. Louis or Texas market (mostly St Louis Cardinals though). Small markets do not factor in well in MLB.

Default The Negatives And The Positives Evaluated

My List Of Potential Cities
1. Tulsa Oklahoma...No , they have the Billionaire Owners and Fortune 500 Companies , but not the "Population Density" of at least 2 Million People.

2. Tidewater..Hampton Roads VA..the area certainly has the 2 Million Population , dut doesn't have the Billionaires and the "Fortune 500" factor

3.Omaha Nebraska ..2nd riches man in the World..(4) Fortune 500 Companies , but doesn't have the Population Base.

4.Louisville Ky...city leadership isn't "progressive enough" for Louisville to get 1st tier Professional Sports Anytime Soon.....

5.Albuquerque NM...doesn't have Billionaires (or) Fortune 500 Companies
they won't have a snowball chance in hell of getting Major League Teams Into Town.

6. El Paso TX...pretty much in the same boat as Albuquerque , but with the added weight around it's neck of Texas having so many teams.

7.Little Rock Arkansas...see Albuquerque New Mexico...

8.Tucson AZ....This beautiful city has city government leadership problems along with no Billionaires and Fortune 500 Companies....
and with just over 1 Million Population...coming up a Million Short.

9.Austin TX....decided on being a BIG COLLEGE TOWN ONLY..with the U of Texas.

10.Grand Rapids Michigan....Lack the 2 Million Population Base....

Tulsa will get a WNBA team if there is not a big reversal of fortune
.....this will happen in the very near future..............
