i wasn`t paying a whole lot of attention to the final round but someone very nearly made a double eagle on one of the par fives .. is that the correct term ? double eagle .. a 2 on a par five .. iv`e never came close ...
Kinda interested in both tours this week as I've been to the Hilton Head course as well as the Diluth, GA (Sugarloaf) course where they used to play the Bell South PGA tour event.....
Sergio did. He almost holed out on 15 with an 8 iron.
(I think Mickelson almost did too.)
Albatross might be another term.
Albatross is the 'proper' term. Basically eagle is bigger than a bird, and an albatross is bigger than an eagle...
That said, you'll likely only hear that term if you are talking to someone outside of the U.S.
At the Masters - each par 5 has had one Albatross. From Gene Sarazen in "the shot heard around the world" to Shrek's shot in 2012 on number 2.
I've had a few eagles in my life and probably came somewhat close to an albatross at one point or another...or maybe not. No hole-in-ones though...(witnessed my buddy get his first h-i-o though).
I've gone to the last six Players Championships in a row. Had gone to several over the years prior. It had become my "Masters" since I got accustomed to going to the Masters a lot when I lived in Augusta (90s, 2000s), but now can't seem to find a way in since I no longer live there.
Taking the year off from driving over to Ponte Vedra. Had reservations but changed my mind due to other travels planned this summer. I've walked the 18 holes so many times I feel like I know the course like the back of my hand, but this year they've made some significant changes, especially to the front nine that it's supposed to be spectator friendly - even more so than the stadium golf that it's known for.
Will be interesting seeing all the big names at the event. It's one of my favorites other than the four majors.
