SkiScree,
I'm a horrible duffer myself. I've never broken 90, much less 70 or 80, but I still enjoy playing with low handicappers now and then. All good players aren't like your friend. Probably the best golfer I've ever played with, a scratch player and the city champ here a few times, never loses his cool on the course or shows disgust over his game. We play a different kind of game, just as my son and I do, but that doesn't matter. We're there to enjoy the game, not compete with each other.

Guys like him or my son will play over hazards that are 250 yards away, while I just try to stay near the fairway and out of the water (which seldom happens). So they get on the green in 1 or 2 or 3 strokes while it takes me 5 or 6 or 7. We still end up in the same place at each hole and start out at the same place on the next tee box. When the round is over we sit down at the bar, have a cold one and talk about the Broncos.

Yeah it's a fun thread very relaxed no bickering, yet. So I was going through all my scorecards and I have a philosophy on scorecards. In my view and this only holds true to me but it's a way of keeping me honest with the game and with other people so that my golf stories don't start sounding like fish stories. To me if I don't have a scorecard for a round that I played it didn't happen, because I have no proof no record of it. So a while back I went through all my scorecards and discovered not a single golf scorecard had me scoring a birdie, well I know I had several birdies before but nothing on record so I wrote it off as not having any and then went straight to the course that day to score my first "official" birdie. I know it's kinda stupid but it's my little hall of official records. I also keep notes on my scorecards, weather, time, any particular great or horrible shots or the time I came within 2 inches of a hole in one on a 163yd par 3. It's fun to look back at my scorecards, it's like scoring a game of baseball, there is a whole another story there. I just put all my scorecards in order of lowest round regardless of a par 3 or 7,200yd course but put them in lowest order per 9 holes even if I played 18 that day. I play a lot more small par 4's and long 3's on weekdays due to work schedule and weekends are either 9 for sure and maybe 18.

So here I will post my 5 lowest and highest round, keep in mind I have had higher rounds and maybe lower ones too but nothing that I have a official scorecard or record of.

Low Rounds, 9 holes on Par 3 courses:

1. Zablocki Park 31 par 3 course 777 total yds.
2. Lake Park 37 par 3 course 616 yds
3. Warnimont Park 39* par 3 1390 yds *(multiple 39's on this course)
4. Hansen Park 41* par 3 917 yds
5. Vernon Valley 42* par 3 1393 yds

High Rounds non Par 3's, all 9 holes:

1. Valley High GC, MN 72 2825 yds (3 holes where I scored a 11, all water holes!)
2. New Berlin Hills GC 72 3095
3. Bristol Oaks 71 3151yds
4. Grant Park 67 2574 yds
5. Grant Park 66 2574 yds

So I have noticed by looking at my scorecards my score really inflates once I start playing 9 holes that are collectively longer than 2,500yds or a any course 5,000yds or longer. Also by using averages you could say that if I played 18 holes on a course longer than 6,500yds I would score around 144. I can drive anywhere from 150-200 and my short game is good and along with my putting is good it's everything in between. I can't hit a long iron or fairway wood to save my life, 3 wood forget it I'd rather hit my 2-iron for about 125-150. I also don't play by using mulligans and I don't use Member 10's on my scorecard unless pace of play determines me to do so. Yeah I'm a hack being only 5'6 and stocky it's hard to get a lot of power behind the ball.

PS: Oh I forgot to add something, I think it was my 2nd time golfing ever and I was playing at a country club that a friend got me into and it was a very big course but I did something I don't think I will ever do again. I hit every fairway for 18 straight holes with my driver, most were dead straight and my friend was shocked and said he couldn't believe what he was seeing, a first time golfer not miss a single fairway! now that's beginners luck!!!

Watching the Web.com (former Hogan Tour/Nike/Nationwide) tour event on Golf Channel.....hard to believe that Lee Janzen, two time Ryder Cup player, two time US Open winner, Tournament Players Champion is playing in PGA's version of the minor leagues. Maybe he's just getting ready for the Championship's Tour.

well... this puts a damper on things. Had a match today, but due to the storms that went through last night, the courses are closed (no power, and need to clean up) so no golfing today..... I guess its all good since it was supposed to be over 100 degrees again. Maybe I'll catch the pros on TV today as they're in town.

Do you have a USGA handicap? That would be another way to track your rounds. Albeit the generic GHIN systems will only track scores. You'd have to use something like nethandicap or other apps to track stats. My scorecards used to look like a spreadsheet after I was done as I would track just about everything (i.e. which side of the fairway missed...). These days, the guys I play with sort of watch each other (since we play for some $ every time). If you shot a good round, you would be "escorted" to the computer to put your score in. This way, there is no sandbagging . Its all in fun though.

So Tiger wins again, while I am no fan nor hater of Tiger I think we can all agree that the more success Tiger has the better the game of golf is not just on the PGA Tour but for the overall health of the sport. I guess I am a slight fan of Tiger the more I look at it, just from a I am glad I get to see history in the making of potentially the greatest golfer ever. So many sports heros or best players ever are all from the yester years but it is pretty cool to witness one of the greats in the game.

I, like millions of others, have followed him from the days as an amateur player to his years of domination, to today. I at he first tee at Augusta National when he hit his first shot (snap hook) as a professional at the Masters.

I've never liked his persona - never gives his opponents their due props, and his on course demeanor when playing bad.

But I've enjoyed being able to watch golf history being made. I rarely miss a round of golf on TV when he's in contention -

Yesterday I saw something very different in his on-course personality. It's almost as if someone has been working with him to improve his demeanor. He had a couple of on course interactions with fans, with military members, etc that is unlike him. He also was able to withhold his temper when he hit a couple of the bad shots. All good to see.

I look forward to what he'll bring to the Brit Open in a couple of weeks.
