Post News, The Most Dangerous Sport: Cheerleading.

Cheerleading safety efforts have led to modest reductions in the number of serious injuries in recent years, according to a new report about college and high school sports and cheerleading mishaps.

But cheerleading continues to cause more serious and deadly injuries by far than other sports.

You're just thinking of cheerleading in terms of girls in skirts on the sidelines going "rah, rah, rah".

There is an entire other side of cheerleading in which they compete with each other and it involves extremely dangerous stunts.

My sister-in-law was a competitive cheerleading in college and high school and was as physically tested as any athlete in any other sport. She broke bones and constantly had severe sprains.

It's very dangerous. When you are being thrown several feet into the air, flipping and twisting several times, thats not exactly safe.

It blows my mind anytime I see people who say it is. I remember reading they were going to try and get it in the Olympics some years back, it's a game not a sport.

Cheerleading is not a sport. You can't even really believe that it is. Yes, I've seen the competitions on ESPN and they do a lot of jumping and acrobatics, but so does the trapeze act at Ringling Bros. I'd compare it more to a dance compitition.

The trapeze act at the circus isnt a competition, it is a show. Therefor, it is not a sport. That is a poor comparison.

I use to share the same opinion as you did but I know someone who was into competitive cheerleading at the highest level and saw that they work as hard as most other team sports athletes do. They practice just as long and suffer from just as many injuries and what they do is just as difficult, if not more so than most other athletes.

Not sure about any of this, but I used to make fun of male cheerleaders, but I would trade places with one of them in a heartbeat just to get my hand on one of their a--es.

those girls do more work than the Poker players Poker Players probably move their hands and head. thats it. Poker aint a sport. Olympics? Yeah right. I would rather watch girls in skirts flip, and risk getting injured than watching lazy bums play a card game of chance. I admit i like playing poker, but not as a sport on ESPN!!!
