I only caught part of his commentary but what I vaguely recall hearing was "and then you have this freak come along who....(vague) blows the competition out of the water" (or something similar). The word "freak really caught my attention and I rewound my DVR to make sure I didn't hear wrong, and yes he was referring to Kim as a "freak" though I know he meant it in a good way.

BTW, Hamlin should have been Hamilton.

He meant it in a good way. What's the big deal?

I've just never heard a commentator refer to a stunningly beautiful woman as a "freak". Maybe "exceptional", extraordinary", even "prodigious" would have been better choices.

Freak is a term sports commentators use to describe an athlete with exceptional skills. I guess it's a little wierd to hear that in a Figure Skating environment, but I'm almost certain he meant freak in the best way possible.

Now that I did not know. Explains a lot. I'm sure he meant it in a good way. I'd just never heard it used in that fashion. Thanks for enlightening me, j.

it's pretty common place in athletics

they're a freak is good thing

has nothing to do with grace, beauty, etc

it has to deal with being able to do things that others simply cannot do - a level of ability, talent and refinement that others just can't match

kind of like a heads and shoulders above everyone else, stand out from the pack, just a freak of nature to be able to do the things they do

for example, in the NFL this guy goes by "the freak"

mainly in part because he goes 6'4", 265 lbs, 86" wingspan, 37" verticle, 4.43 40 and has massive hands ..... he also had 14.5 sacks as a rookie
