The commute coming from the South can be kind of crazy, and there are more farms in the locations I listed.
That's the best advice I've seen. One of my favorite blogs to read is located in that area - Living and Gardening in the Ozarks.

No problem, and if you want a decent list of Ozarks blogs, if you visit the link for my blog, Ozarks Crescent Mural, down the right-hand side I have a list of Ozarks Blogs.

If anyone has one to add to the list, I'd love to know about it!

Oh, gosh, that wasn't my intention at all. Thank you so much!

I hope you can find some interesting blogs in that list. I read all of them.

And if you ever come across an Ozarks blog, I hope you'll pass it along to me.

I'm more likely to use you as a source I'm trying to learn all I can from people doing what I want to do there so I can hit the ground running and know what to look for to make my life easier.

Well, since I know you want to do the gardening and farming thing, you might find blogs like Chert Hollow Farm of particular interest. I tend to spend a lot of my posts on real estate right now since I no longer have my Douglas County place and I'm looking in the SWMO area for a new place to live. But down the road, I'll be talking about general Ozarks life. Please stay in touch and let me know what you end of doing. And keep up with Missouri Multi-List. It's my favorite for looking at real estate.

Default yes prices are as cheap as that

Try a little farther up by weaubleau or wheatland. One home about 2000 sq ft on 80 acres with barn and fencing was going for 199K a couple months back.

The State puts out a free magazine which is very good information about the state. You can also watch RFD-TV and listen to farm reports on the radio. What you should remember is land from Jeff City to near Tulsa and south fo just north of Fayetteville, AR is in the Ozark Mountain Range -- an area of approximately 50,000 acres. It not too unusual to dig down under the pretty green grass and hit hardpan. It is not a particularly good growing medium; you may need to add nutrients. The farm and feed stores know the land and the area better than anyone. .

Look for large farms with grain or soybeans; you should find some good soil. You may well do better North of I-70 or Northeast of Jefferson City. It is a slightly shorter growing season, and slightly cooler summers which is not necessarily a bad thing. .
